OUR STORY

The idea for The Zookeeper's Sketchbook - Artimalia’s first name - came to us on a sunny afternoon one Saturday. We had just heard a kerfuffle in a palm tree outside of our house and, for a fleeting moment, we caught a glimpse of a Square-Tailed Kite before it was chased away by an angry crowd of Noisy Miners. We're blessed to be surrounded by nature where we live, on the outskirts of the Australian bush, and as keen artists, we often find ourselves inspired to put pencil to paper to document our wildlife encounters.

Artimalia is our love letter to nature. We love our natural world, and we're constantly fascinated by the animals and plants that we're lucky enough to share our planet with. Whenever possible, you'll find us face down in the ocean watching the sea life below, or wandering through bush trails searching the land, treetops, and skies for wildlife. Back home, we sketch, surrounded by our three lovely dogs, and animals are so often the subject of our drawings. So, we thought we'd share them with you, in hopes of bringing more attention to the incredible biodiversity on Earth, and the threats that so many species face in the wild. Part illustration studio, part educational platform, Artimalia brings together our loves of art, animals and conservation. We hope you’ll love it, too.

Love,
Gareth and Tash
